I have just read on the latest number (9th July 2009) of German magazine “Stern” an interview to Akio Toyoda, the new CEO of Toyota.
One question was about his racing passion (he participated to the 24 hours in Nürburgring in 2007).
He answered that he is the responsible of a car company. He should know more about cars than his engineers (!) in order to be able to take the appropriate decisions. he added that in this way he could definitely learn more about cars and the racing team itself learned more about racing and at the end Toyota can build better cars.
This is why I like to work in industries where I can try and enjoy the products I should contribute, i.e. it would be difficult to work in a company producing weapons …
